Yehliu Geopark is located at the North Coast part of Taiwan. The rock layers of nearby seashore contains limestone because of the marine erosion and earth movements. The wind, waves, and Mother Nature carved these unusual rock formations and it just proves that God is the most ingenious craftsman! Right?! Going to Yehliu and witnessing this spectacular view is just an hour away from Taipei.
How to get there?
By Bus, go to Terminal A at Taipei Station and take the express bus bound for Jinshan Youth Activity Center of Kuo-Kuang Co. Then alight at Yehliu Stop. The bus ticket per person is about NT 96 or about Php 144 and travel time is only 1 hour and 20 minutes. Buses come every 20 minutes from 5:40 am first trip and 11:00 pm as the last trip during weekdays. On weekends, the first trip will come a little late from 6:30 am to 11:00 pm.
When you plan to go to Yehliu Geopark via bus, just a tip, inform the bus driver where you're headed so he can inform you if it's time to go down. Showing a picture of the park can be helpful in case he cannot understand English.
You'll know you're in Yehliu Stop if you see this big arch on your right and this restaurant on your left (see picture below). You will notice a number of tourist bus and Yehliu ads or posters near the area as well. Then, go down and start walking then pass through the arch and walk straight for about 10 mins. You'll know you're near once you pass by the Chinese temple on your right.
The big parking lot will greet you and I'm pretty sure there will be a long line of tourists so p
prepare yourself to wait.
Entrance fee will cost you NT 50 or Php 75!!! so cheap right? That’s why if you want to try something new in Taiwan aside from eating them I highly recommend you to visit Yehliu Geopark because going there is easy and cheap plus it is worth visiting before this natural formation disappears in the future (since the formation naturally erodes year after year).
There are more than 30 distinct formation scattered all over the 1,700 meter long geology park. It’s a challenge to locate all 30+ but it’s also fun to create your own name for the formations you’ll see. As they say, imagination and creativity is limitless.
When we visited the park, there was a slight drizzle and really strong wind that’s why it was quite chilly in the area. It also made the hike a bit hard since the surface became a bit slippery so I suggest you not to wear slippers just like my boyfriend haha.
Look at these lovely formations! It’s Mother Nature’s gift for Taiwan. The formation looks soft and sandy but the truth is, it’s really hard like corals or stones. At one point I felt like I was at the moon with all the craters that surrounds me. In the park you will see a lot of mushroom looking formation. We also saw these rocks...
Bottom line, Yehliu Geopark is great for family, friends, photography enthusiast, lovers (for romantic strolls along the park), and hikers.
